    New Review of INVISIBLE FENCES
Posted on Halloween at the Shroud Magazine Book Reviews site: http://shroudmagazinebook...s-cemetery-dance-by.html

Here's an excerpt from the review: "Norman Prentiss' debut is a haunting tale of reminiscence and regret, of how things thought laid to rest long ago still lurk at the bottom of our souls. His prose is smooth, nearly flawless, and his narrative voice invokes a Gothic, literary tone. Best of all, the chills lie solidly in the strength and substance of the story, rather than something tacked on in pastiche at the end."

    New Interview @ Snowbird Gothic
Richard Dansky posted an interview with me as part of his "Five for Writing" series at his website, Snowbird Gothic.  Scroll down the page for the interview, which has comments about my slush-reading days at Cemetery Dance, my long-past days in academia as a Thomas Hardy scholar, and a bit about quiet horror and my novella, Invisible Fences.

3 Novellas Announced for Pre-Order from Cemetery Dance

On their website today, Cemetery Dance posted preorder details for the next three novellas in their series, including my first book, Invisible Fences. The other two books are Greg Gifune's Catching Hell and Tim Curran's The Corpse King (both of which I've read in galleys, and *highly* recommend).

There's a special offer on the site's main page: if you order all three books, you can get $20 off, AND a free signed chapbook with stories by the three newly announced authors in the series, and one by Brian Keene (whose excellent novella in the series, The Cage, was announced previously and is already sold out). The books are due early in 2010, but the chapbook is already printed and ready to ship. Get the full details at http://www.cemeterydance.com/page/CDP/PROD/_FREEITEM

    Positive Mention in LOCUS Magazine!
My story in Postscripts #18 got mentioned in the June issue of Locus magazine (the short fiction reviews):
"I particularly liked Norman Prentiss's "In the Porches of My Ears", a sweet sad story about a couple at the movies and their reaction to another couple: a blind man and his wife, who narrates the entire movie to him."

"In the Porches of My Ears," POSTSCRIPTS #18
My story, "In the Porches of My Ears," opens issue #18 of PS Publishing's excellent POSTSCRIPTS Magazine (now in its new hardback anthology format). I don't have a US purchasing link yet, but it's available from the publisher's website in two formats: standard hardback, and signed limited hardback:

New Online Story @ Horror Drive-In ("Control")
Check out my brand-new story at the Horror Drive-In website.  It's short (1,500 words), so it's easy to read on-screen:

Also, there's a brief interview with me after the story.

CRANE HOUSE -- "Round Robin" Novella from Cemetery Dance
I'm one of 11 writers who got to take-the-story-then-write-a-chapter-then-pass-it-along.  The round robin novella that resulted, The Crane House, is now being offered for advance purchase from Cemetery Dance publications as part of a "Collectors Set" deal:  $99 for 3 books (the other two are novellas by Brian Keene and Ray Garton, two favorites of mine and LOTS of other people!).

Here's the cool cover image for the book, by Jill Bauman.

And here's the full list of authors who built The Crane HouseBrian Keene, Kealan Patrick Burke, Al Sarrantonio, Rick Hautala, Bev Vincent, Brian Freeman, James A. Moore, James Newman, Ronald Kelly, Norman Prentiss, and Ray Garton.  I'm really proud to have my little chapter as part of a book written by so many great horror authors.

The pre-ordering period is VERY short for this collection of 3 books (a little over a week left).  Visit the Cemetery Dance site for full information:  www.cemeterydance.com/page/CDP/PROD/_CDEX2009

    NEW WEBSITE, www.normanprentiss.com!
Please check out my new website when you get the chance.  I've had a "mysterious" teaser up for a while, but now it's a fully functioning site, designed by the super-talented Deena Warner.  It has some free stuff to read (a short story, and a few poems), blurbs and news about my upcoming novella, and a few fascinating photos of me reading a story or sitting in a chair or something.   How can you resist?!?

GREEN MAN REVIEW on INVISIBLE FENCES
I'm a bit late putting this up, but [info]rdansky did a nice review of Invisible Fences for The Green Man Review last month.  Here's the link:  http://www.greenmanreview.com/book/book_prentiss_invisiblefences.html

An excerpt from the review:  “Prentiss handles a story that could have been melodramatic or slight and instead infuses it with a quiet dignity and an admirable style. If you're missing the work of the late Charles E. Grant, you'll find what you're looking for here.”

    A phantom uterus...
My poem, "On the Occasion of a Friend's Hysterectomy," was just published in the first issue of an online humor magazine, On the Brighter Side (OtheBS for short). You can download and read the first issue for free, available at this link: http://www.othebs.com/

A lot of funny stuff in the magazine--and did I mention it's free? did I put "free" in bold?

    Walk Like an Egyptian
One day at my former job, about six years ago, my coworker Boyd asked me, "Norman, why are you walking like the Mummy?"  Now, since Boyd likes classic horror (fiction and movies), I knew he wasn't talking about a Brendan Frazer movie.  Also, because I really was walking like Lon Chaney, Jr.-era Kharis.  Thump with one foot, and drag the other on the floor.  Repeat.

I actually thought I'd broken my foot.  Turns out it was the accursed gout.  And if you want to know what it feels like, look no further than this picture:

Of course, I'm reminded of this story for the worst of possible reasons.  (No, not because there's a sequel to the Brendan Fraser movie coming out!).

    BOOKLIST Review for INVISIBLE FENCES

Just learned that my upcoming book got a positive review in Booklist!  I've pasted an excerpt from the review below:

“Cemetery Dance's short novel program yields another gem with this sobering story about the imaginary barriers of fear we place around our life circumstances as we grow up… Carefully crafted prose… a lucid reflection on life's inevitable burden of fear and fractured memory.”

First book, First reviews, First LJ blog . . .
So, I've had my LJ account for a while, but pretty much only lurked on other people's blogs, with only an occasional comment (kind of similar to my message board behavior, actually). My forthcoming book still isn't announced from the publisher, but they've sent out a bunch of ARCs, and I've gotten a few reviews, so it seems kinda safe to mention it.

My novella, Invisible Fences, will be #19 in the Cemetery Dance novella series, to be published towards the end of the year. Here's a couple early reviews:

At David Niall Wilson's Macabre Ink Reviews:
    http://macabreink.com/reviews-interviews/2007-2008-reading-list/invisible-fences

And at Mark Sieber's Horror Drive-In:
